If You Say You Can, You Will
Last year, I set myself a goal to read 24 books in 2024. I am happy to report that I did it. As a self identified bibliophile, I love books because they are powerful. They encourage, educate, and expose me to so many perspectives. Last year was truly challenging for me. Work was keeping me busy and my daughter was in the hospital eight times. She even got sick while we were on holiday in Morocco. On top of that, I also had to complete my continued education in order to maintain my Certified Public Accounting license which required me completing 80 hours worth of courses and passing the exams with a minimum score of 75% by 30th June 2024. Despite the many responsibilities that I was juggling, I still found the time to read. I saw reading as a way for me to relax. It was also a way for me to realise that I am not alone and there are many people before me who dealt with worse but were still capable of achieving their dreams and their purpose. There were some books that even coached me out of the “funk” that I was in and reminded me that life is all about how you react to the cards that you are dealt with. I realised that I have the power to choose how I respond and react to things. So while things continue to be challenging because that is life, I am realising that your mindset is so important. If you have a goal and you are determined to achieve it, you will find a way to make it happen because you are determined. So as we start the new year, I am going to continue to be bold, be brave, and dream big. It is a friendly reminder that anything can be achieved through commitment and consistency. I plan to expand my reading challenge more broadly and invite others to join me. There is power to read but the power is even mightier when you are part of a community; so watch this space and let me know if you want to get involved.
