Happy MLK Day

Yesterday a few of my Sorority Sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) and I met to prepare Blessing Bags to give to homeless people who are based in Elephant and Castle which is in Central London. A blessing bag is a bag that contains essentials such as toiletries, gloves, sanitary pads, wipes, light snacks, and socks for those in need. We distributed the bags at a local charity, Missionaries of Charity. Every Sunday, from 10am to 11am, the charity prepares and serves a hot meal and a hot beverage. The people who received the bags were so appreciative. It was a great way to start the week. Despite all the political drama that is happening across the world, it was a friendly reminder that we can all be the change that we want to see. As the late Martin Luther King, Jr said “Darkness cannot drive darkness, only light can do that.” So while I know that it is easy to fall into a state of doom and gloom, I am reminded that we all play an important role in the world that we want to live in. So choose love over hate and light over darkness. I remain hopeful that our best and brightest days are still ahead of us. Treat every day as an opportunity to serve.
