Women’s History Month Celebration

Earlier this month, I celebrated International Women’s History Month by attending my first women’s retreat with some of my Link Sisters from the London (UK) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. We stayed at the Royal Automobile Club in Epsom. It was an opportunity for us to celebrate, reflect, and strategise. This year we decided to do a month long walk-a-thon by committing to walk at least 10,000 steps a day and each of us raising at least £500. The money raised will go towards some of our programs which include the following:

  1. Providing supplies for those in need

  2. Funding the Queen Mary University of London and Spelman College in Atlanta cross cultural exchange program for Black Female students

  3. Preparing the youth for success by partnering with organisations that uplift our communities such as Prosper, the social mobility network of Badu Sports

  4. Giving the gift of confidence by organising our annual clothing drive which benefits Dress for Success Greater London

As of this writing on 23rd March, I have walked 315,476 steps. This is well above the initial 310,000 steps that I set out to do. I am also happy to report that I exceeded my fund raising goal and have raised £578. I am so grateful for the encouragement and the support that I have received so far. This is what life is about. We have a choice to accept the world as it is or develop a plan to make it better. I am grateful that my Link Sisters and I are choosing to make it better by putting in the work and spreading the love. It is not too late to support me.

I make a living working in the City of London in banking. For fun I love to read, run, visit spas, and spend time with my family and friends. I believe that each of us holds power in our words and can be whatever we want to be so long as we make the commitment to work on it. I love to tell and share stories.
