Feel Good Moment

Last week Friday I volunteered for one of my favourite charities, FoodCycle. FoodCycle’s mission is to make food poverty, loneliness, and food waste a thing of the past for every community. FoodCycle receives food from super markets that can no longer sell the food but it is edible. This helps reduce food waste by donating to charities who can use the food to serve its local community. We prepare a vegan or vegetarian three course meal. As a volunteer you can either work in the kitchen or work as a host. I love working as a host because it gives me the opportunity to connect and talk to people. Some of the guests are lonely or others are vulnerable and worry about running out of food. In the past, we would serve around 50 people but this time we had 70 people! It never gets old seeing the familiar faces, their smiles and their gratitude. I am truly grateful to be in a position to take time off work and give back to those in need. I encourage you to carve out some time and give back to your local community because you have a gift that is worth sharing.

I make a living working in the City of London in banking. For fun I love to read, run, visit spas, and spend time with my family and friends. I believe that each of us holds power in our words and can be whatever we want to be so long as we make the commitment to work on it. I love to tell and share stories.
