Cinco De Mayo

Happy Friday Eve! Throwing it back to me celebrating Cinco De Mayo with my friends who I haven’t seen in a while. It is crazy how social media and messaging applications such as WhatsApp will give you the false comfort that you are in touch with your friends but nothing beats spending time with your friends “in person”. Special shout out to my friend, Elizabeth, who I saw at a book event who organised the Cinco De Mayo lunch for a few of us to meet up. It was so good to catch up and see how everyone is doing. As a working mom, I sometimes get used to following the same routine and making little time to connect with friends. So it was nice to go to Wahaca, a Mexican franchise, in Canary Wharf. I treated myself to an Acapulco Spritz ( the Mexican version of Aperol Spritz); guacamole and chips; and a triple cheese quesadilla. We caught up on the latest current affairs and pop culture including the Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s rap beef. Hands down the most entertaining rap battle in my lifetime though I must admit; it is starting to get too personal and less about lyrical skills. Also, learned a couple of interesting facts about Cinco De Mayo:

  1. Cinco De Mayo (5th of May) is not Mexican Independence Day which is actually celebrated on the 16th September

  2. The holiday celebrates Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 led by General Ignacio Zaragoza.

We promised to not wait so long to make the time to connect. It was much needed to laugh, encourage, and celebrate all that we have been doing as women who are trying to navigate this thing called life. Look forward to our next meet up and hope that it will be before our annual Friendsgiving celebration in November.

I make a living working in the City of London in banking. For fun I love to read, run, visit spas, and spend time with my family and friends. I believe that each of us holds power in our words and can be whatever we want to be so long as we make the commitment to work on it. I love to tell and share stories.
