What Lyrics Will You Choose To Sing
Every year, I choose a book that has a daily reading to start my day. This year I chose The President’s Devotional by Joshua Dubois. Joshua Dubois served as the head of the Office of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships in the Executive Office of the President of the United States from 2009 to 2013. He stepped down in 2013 to write this book based on the daily devotions that he sent to Barack Obama. It has really helped me to get my mind right and ensure that God is at the center in everything that I do. The devotion that he wrote for 29th September was called Nina Simone. It starts by sharing some of the lyrics from her song, Feeling Good. The song has a positive message even though the beat sounds a bit dark. Joshua highlights that the song reminds him of David in Psalm 59. David first writes fearfully of stalkers and invaders camped around him before he ends his thoughts on a positive note and remind himself that with God by his side; he can conquer anything. The moral from the lesson is that we may face challenges but it is up to us to choose the lyrics that we want to sing to help us navigate them. So no matter what lays ahead; remind yourself that you have a choice on how you want to face it. Do you want to face it with a positive note or a negative note? I choose a positive note.
